Our Blueberry Girl

August 15, 2019

By Grammy Green

It's been 148 days since sprouting, and our Blueberry, still at 41" in height, is ready for harvest.  At least the top third is.  We're seeing a nice wave of amber trichomes at the top, but the lower two-thirds of the plant is still showing mostly clear.  We are going to try something different for us - lop off the top and let the remaining plant mature for another week or so.

Blueberry is an "old" strain from the 1970s, developed by a breeder named DJ Short. Our seeds came from Canuk Seeds, who promise "a perfect strain for medical users to suppress pain and relieve stress", one that should yield 13% THC, although an Indica-dominant hybrid.

The genetics of Blueberry are complicated, but distill down to parentage that stems from Purple Thai and an Afghani male, crossed with Highland Thai “Juicy Fruit”.  Blueberry has genes from the two best Sativas that DJ Short found and also genes from a valued Afghani male from California that had desirable growing characteristics.

It will be a while before we know the total yield from this one plant, and a while after that before we can decide how much we like the buzz, so we'll keep you posted.

Parting is such sweet sorrow.
